trekking nepal after earthquake

Nepal After Earthquake

After witnessing the devastating earthquake on April 25th and some of it's powerful aftershocks, I went for small trip in Southeast Asia. I'm from Kathmandu Nepal, definitely traveling with Nepali Passport. Everyone after knowing that I'm from Nepal were staring at me, as if no one in Nepal were safe. Everything is collapsed back in my country. Well, this is the reason why #GoHomeIndianMedia became socially viral. Instead of analyzing aftermath of devastating earthquake positively, media were covering footage of monuments and local houses which were turned into rubbles. Especially by Indian Media.

Like NDTV, so called Indian New Channel broadcast live from rubbles of Budget Hotel in Thamel. Reporter - "Ye dekhiye tabaha ho gai, Thamel jise Mini India vi kaya jata hai ".

[English Translation : Look here, Thamel is entirely collapsed. Thamel is also known as Mini India]

If you look at Thamel, it is a major touristic hub of Kathmandu. There are hundreds of hotels. And Hotel Budget is the only one which collapsed in Thamel. Just next to Hotel Budget, there are many other hotels and still functioning normally.

When I was in Thailand, I had choose to stay in couch surfing. I encounter with another couch surfer named Cindy Lim from Singapore, who was in Nepal right at the time of earthquake. When she know that I am from Nepal, she was so eager to talk with me. She had been to Ghorepani Poonhill Trek and was planning her trip to Tibet. But her family force her to return Singapore. She can't convince her parent. She point to the media for negative travel advisory. As entire medias were broadcasting the destruction of the earthquake. So she return back to Singapore and starts her month long trip in Southeast Asian country.

Nowadays entrepreneurs are becoming very active. Indeed it is a good thing. Also renowned companies like The Mountain Company, Word Expedition, KE Adventure  are resuming their activities in Nepal from coming September. We can also see many articles related to rapid recovery of tourism in Nepal. Lonely Planet recommend Annapurna for coming October 2015.

"Bookings are slow, but that’s natural" said Fiona Marshall from KE Adventure Travel for The Guardian Blog. I think this is because of media. Media should've calculated long term concerns of their reporting, but unfortunately they didn't. Also travel insurance is major problem. As many insurance providers were not covering any activities in Nepal (previously). But now many of them, they are offering it. You can also read the experience of Margaret Peggy, she had been to Nepal after earthquake.

It look like Nepal will be able to retain it's visitor. Local operators now are marketing Nepal as a safe destinations. No doubt, Manaslu and Langtang needs more time to be restored as a teahouse trekking. Rest others are partially or totally unaffected after earthquake. Epicenter was close south of Manaslu, in Gorkha. Also, plate slip's energy head to east and devastate Lantang. Somehow up to Everest on eastern side there was affect of Earthquake. However Kanchenjunga and Makalu totally remains intact. So was on the west, Mustang, Dolpo and Far West remained intact.
